A metal chain is a metal chain as long as it remains a metal chain in the place where it was designated a metal cha……..oops sorry, repetition syndrome. What I am trying to say is this: on their own ideas, things, weapons, stuff generally are just as they are. The real change comes when they are handled by certain factors, or people. In the hands of a police officer, a gun is a protection weapon, in the hands of a robber, it is a weapon of mass destruction. The simple difference is understanding.
Have you ever wondered why doing a particular thing is so effortless for a particular set of people and totally burdensome for another set of people? Here’s the reason: Understanding.
Now let’s bring this back home. Why do you go to church? Why do you pray in the morning? Why do you have to rehearse for a ministration? Why do people find it easier to watch a movie for 3 hours rather than watching a message of 45 minutes? Why is it easier to listen to Rihanna shining bright like a diamond (in her mind sha, no offence taken) than to listen to Hezekiah Walker singing about God favoring him? Why is it easier to dance in a birthday party, yet in church the praise leader begs you to dance ? Why do Eminem lyrics stick faster than scriptures?
Christianity is burdensome to some people NOT because it’s BURDENSOME, but because they do not UNDERSTAND the message of Christianity. They see it as RELIGION (which comes from the Latin word “religio” meaning bond, a synonym of the word yoke. Enough said), a long insurmountable lists of do’s and don’ts; you either do them or you burn in hell……..no explanation whatsoever why you should follow them, no explanation on what these rules mean, just plain old bondage. That is a huge deception from the father of lies!!! Christianity is NOT a religion, but a LIFESTYLE. The early believers were not nicknamed Christians because they followed a barrage of rules, but because of their WAY OF LIFE (ACTS 11:22-30).
Because of this, we have today a lot of churchgoers, people who “just” go to church, who do not understand what is a church, why it is a church, why we are supposed to go to church. And the most pathetic part is that even some believers cannot defend their attending services. A Muslim will spell out to you his 1000 reasons why he goes to the mosque on Fridays, even by his tone of voice you will know that he is sure of what he believes. But try and ask some professing believers, “Why do you go to church?” and the replies some of them will give you might chill you to the bone. That’s because some of them grew up going to church and never asked why;to them it has become a tradition, some sort of mystery ritual that they just do(action+ignorance), some simply follow their friends because their friends go to church (and end up snoring their way through the service! Have you ever seen a Muslim nod during their prayers and recitations?). Some go to church to avoid the pastors getting to know their rooms (why were you not in church today, bro?), some go to show off their new clothes or designer shoes, some go there to make jest or mock others (absurd!) and some are even clueless on why they go to church. Mixed multitude of life!!!!!!
But the question still remains: WHY DO WE GO TO CHURCH? WHAT IS GOD’S VIEW ON OUR GATHERING TOGETHER FOR A MAXIMUM OF 4 HRS EVERY SUNDAY, WHEN WE CAN USE THAT TIME AND REST OR DO OTHER THINGS? WHAT SHOULD WE UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFESTYLE?
to be continued…………..
